Arrival Day | Sightseeing Suggestion: St Andrews Town Tour

Famously known as the Home of Golf and home to Scotland's oldest University, St Andrews is a wonderful historic, seaside destination on many a bucket list. St Andrews has a fascinating history. The cathedral was built in the 12th century and was the largest building in Scotland for seven centuries, with pilgrims flocking here from all over Europe. If you enjoy walking, the Fife Pilgrim Way (64 miles) follows the route pilgrims would have taken finishing in the town. The ruins of the Cathedral and Castle will take you on a journey back in time. The Castle’s underground mine passages and bottle dungeon remain intact and give visitors a real taste of medieval Scotland. It's also home to Scotland's oldest seat of learning, the University of St Andrews, which regularly features in the UK's list of top universities. Everyone also knows of the fairytale royal romance where Wills met Kate!

Day 2 | Sightseeing

Cambo Gardens (Optional Kingsbarns Distillery Tour)

Cambo Gardens is a historic 2.5-acre Victorian walled garden located on the Cambo Estate in Kingsbarns, Fife, just a few miles south of St Andrews, Scotland.

Dating back to the 1800s, the gardens are best known for holding the Plant Heritage national collection of snowdrops, featuring over 350 varieties that blanket the estate's woodlands each winter. Throughout the rest of the year, the landscape offers constantly evolving displays, including a North American prairie garden (unique to Scotland), naturalistic herbaceous borders, a lilac walk, and an ornamental potager.

The grounds also feature 70 acres of tranquil woodland walks that lead directly to the sea at Cambo Sands. Visitors can explore the restored 18th-century Stables Visitor Centre, which houses a heritage exhibition, a craft and plant shop, and a café that serves vegetarian-friendly meals made with produce grown on-site.

Walk the Old Course

On Sundays, The Old Course turns into a public park where the townspeople walk and enjoy the spirit of the land. You too can walk the course hole by hole and get a feeling for the layout of this historic place.

Day 3| Play Carnoustie Golf Links

The Championship Course has hosted eight Open Championships, two Women’s Open and two Seniors Open making it one of the very few to have done so in the UK. It is one of three courses used for the annual Dunhill Links. Held the dramatic "99 British Open" won in a play off by Paul Lawrie after Jean Van De Veld made a mess of the 18th. Walter Hagen described this course as the best course in Britain. Watch out for the Barry Burn - Jean didn't - sand, rough and out of bounds. The list of players to lift the Claret Jug at Carnoustie is impressive, including names such as Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Tom Watson, Padraig Harrington and most recently Francesco Molinari in 2018. After your round you can enjoy a panoramic view over a course of legends at The Rookery Restaurant and Bar. 18 holes, 6941 yards, par 72.

Day 3 | Sightseeing: Glamis Castle

Glamis Castle is a living, breathing monument to Scottish heritage, hospitality and enjoyment for all. The family home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, Glamis Castle is the legendary setting for Shakespeare's Macbeth, the childhood home of HM Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and the birthplace of Princess Margaret. As soon as you enter the Queen Mother Gates at Glamis and see the Castle's turrets and towers nestled at the end of the mile-long drive, you can't fail to be impressed by its majesty. Steeped in history, Glamis Castle has evolved over the years to create a stunning architectural treasure that is full of vitality to this day. Once inside, every room has its own story and the evolution of the castle and its legendary tales and secrets are brought to life by your own enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guides.

Day 4 | Edinburgh

Guided walking tour of Edinburgh included - duration around 2,5h.

Welcome to Edinburgh, the inspiring capital of Scotland, where centuries of history meet a vibrant, cosmopolitan city in an unforgettable setting. Discover stunning scenery, striking architecture and fine food. Visit the arts and culture attractions of Edinburgh & The Lothians, which include brilliant galleries, fantastic art centres and entertainment venues. Spend the day marvelling at national collections of artworks or exploring smaller galleries. At night, take in a theatre show or drop by a comedy club for a few laughs. Edinburgh & The Lothians offer a fantastic variety of productions staged in amazing theatres. Settle down in a comfy chair and enjoy work by big companies such as Scottish Opera and the National Theatre of Scotland or see leading amateur performances. Explore Edinburgh’s beautifully preserved Old and New Town and discover an incredible array of historical and cultural attractions. Edinburgh's Old Town is a labyrinth of cobbled streets, narrow alleyways and hidden courtyards, all amazingly well preserved and steeped in the city's history. At its centre is the Royal Mile, a remarkable street of Reformation-era tenement buildings leading from the seat of Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock down to the grandiose Palace of Holyroodhouse. Inspired by the lofty ideals of the Scottish Enlightenment, the neat and ordered grid of the New Town provides an elegant contrast to the labyrinthine design of the Old Town. Its broad streets boast spectacular neoclassical and Georgian architecture, with a wealth of beautiful buildings perfectly preserved since their construction in the 18th and 19th centuries

Day 5 | Golfers | Play St Andrews Links, Jubilee Course

Opened in 1897, this course was named to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of Queen Victoria. The third championship course at the Home of Golf, the Jubilee is considered by many to be the most challenging course on the famous Links. It was originally intended for use by ladies and beginners however after seeing its prime golfing location between the New Course and the sea, the Jubilee was converted to a championship layout in 1988. 6742 yards, par 72

Day 5 Sightseeing:

Edin Mill St Andrews Distillery

Just a ten-minute drive from the centre of St Andrews, we are excited to be able to welcome guests from all over the world through our doors. With immersive gin and whisky experiences, a retail space and a beautiful top-floor cocktail bar, there will be lots to discover. Built with sustainability in mind, our distillery is now fully operational. All our electricity will be from renewable sources, coming primarily from the University of St Andrews solar farm.

St Andrews Botanic Gardens

St Andrews Botanic Garden is an 18-acre haven of ecological research and conservation located just a few minutes from the historic center of Fife, Scotland. Originally founded in 1889 and relocated to its present site in 1960, the beautifully landscaped grounds slope down toward the Kinness Burn and are sheltered by tall conifers. The garden contains an incredibly diverse collection of over 8,000 plant species, including champion trees, rare cultivars, and specialized collections arranged by habitat. It serves as both a tranquil community space and a "living laboratory," offering woodland walks, meadows, and opportunities to learn about plant evolution and horticulture.

Day 6 | Sightseeing: Stirling Castle

Stirling Castle is one of Scotland's most historically important sites and was once a favored residence of the Stewart kings and queens who held grand celebrations at the castle. Knights, nobles and foreign ambassadors once flocked to Stirling Castle to revel in its grandeur with its superb sculptures and beautiful gardens. It was a favored residence of the Stewart kings and queens who held grand celebrations from christenings to coronations. With beautiful gardens to unwind in, costumed performers who bring history to life and welcoming staff, the award-winning Stirling Castle is a must-see!

Day 7 | Golfers | Play St Andrews, The Old Course

The most famous golf course in the world will undoubtedly be the highlight of your trip, with a unique tradition more than six centuries old. A caddie is recommended if this is your first game on the Old Course. 18 holes, 6721 yards, par 72.

A current official handicap card (Golf Club affiliated to a Golf Union/Association) record or certificate must be presented to the starter prior to play. Maximum handicaps - 24 Men, 36 Ladies.

Day 7 | Sightseeing | Falkland Palace & Gardens

After the garden had been used for growing potatoes during the Second World War, Cane was invited to reinterpret the formal garden surrounding the palace. With little surviving historic evidence to work from, Cane created a 20th-century design that is widely acknowledged as outstanding for both its historic value and as a work of art.

Falkland Palace Garden is the most complete example of Cane’s work in Scotland, and one of the few remaining examples of his landscape designs in Britain. Our dedicated garden team are currently working to revive Cane’s original planting, returning the formal gardens to their former splendour.

Visit in the summer months to see the spectacular herbaceous beds and borders. ***** ~Falkland Palace

Parts of Outlander were filmed in Falkland, take a stroll up the street and find the fountain that made its way into the hit series. Next to it is a great local eatery to stay for lunch if you get hungry after visiting the Palace & Gardens.
